Our Community

At PLP we believe that we have a responsibility to give something back to the communities that we work in.

We like to get involved in OUR local community

As part of PLP’s Community Engagement Process we actively promote social inclusion and attempt to involve all groups in the wider community who may be impacted by a project.

We have sponsored local events, local sporting teams and donated to local charities. Wherever we have worked in or close to schools, we have provided talks on health and safety and careers in construction. In a recent project in Gorton we attended a Careers Day at Sacred Heart Primary School, Gorton. This was set up to raise the aspirations of the children and following on from this visit we arranged for some of the children to come on a site visit.

The children were invited to design their own sustainable homes of the future to help to educate the children about the importance of sustainable living. The responses were amazing and their designs included imaginative features such as incorporating exercise bikes in the lounge to exercise and create electricity and room lighting that was turned on or off by sensors.

We recently attended a Careers Evening at Canon Slade School where we were on site constructing new changing facilities. As a result of the careers Evening we arranged a Work Placement on site for a boy who was interested in becoming a Bricklayer. We have also sponsored the Football Team Kit for the 6th Form Boys Team at Canon Slade School, Bolton.

The overall project comprises the provision of a new extension to create two new classrooms to the school and the remodeling of existing rooms into larger classrooms with wet areas, along with the opening up of the hall into an open plan space.

Whilst working on site at the school we have also visited the children to talk to them about health and safety and the dangers of construction sites.  We also spent some time with the older year groups to discuss career options within the construction industry, giving them some aims and aspirations for their future careers.

Local Benefits

By employing from the local community and using a local supply chain this helps us to generate considerable economic local benefit. For every £1 construction spent with PLP this equats to £2.84 going back into the local economy (Source CBI Report)
